Right then, that is all we have from this one-side game and it has blown Group 1 of the Super Six completely open. The action in the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup continues on Sunday 22nd January as India Women Under-19 will look to come back stronger from this loss against Sri Lanka Women Under-19 and that game will start at 5.15 pm IST (11.45 am GMT) at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom. Our build-up will begin well in advance so do join us for it. Until then, it is goodbye and cheers!
Rhys McKenna the skipper of Australia Women Under-19 says that the first game against Bangladesh Women Under-19 made them work harder to get here. Adds that it was a very good performance from her bowlers. Mentions that the preparation will be similar and they will look to continue this form in their next game.
Shafali Verma the captain for India Women Under-19 says that we were not able to put on the batting performance that they wanted but will learn from their mistakes and come back stronger. Admits that it is not a difficult pitch but there was a bit for the bowler and all the credit goes to the Australia Women Under-19 bowlers who bowled really well. Claims that there is always a bit of pressure playing tournaments like this but they back themselves to stay together and come out on top.
Milly Illingworth is the Player of the Match for taking two crucial wickets at the start of the inning which never allowed India Women Under-19 to get back into the game. She says that she was really happy with the wicket of Shafali Verma. Claims that she loves to bowl fast and enjoys it. Mentions that it was a complete performance from the team and they deserved the win.
Time for the presentations...
India Women Under-19 lost the game courtesy of their poor batting performance in the first inning as they were bundled out for a measly total with just three batters reaching double figures. Shweta Sehrawat top scored once again with 21 but could not really get going. Sienna Ginger was the pick of the bowlers claiming three wickets for 13 runs in her four overs with Milly Illingworth and Maggie Clark chipping in with two wickets. Rhys McKenna and Ella Hayward took one wicket each and set up an easy run chase for the batters.
Australia Women Under-19 got off to a positive start as they looked to take the attack to the India Women Under-19 bowlers but lost Kate Pelle, Sienna Ginger, and Ella Hayward for nine runs to send some jitters down the dressing room. Claire Moore showed her quality once again as she got together with the talented Amy Smith to settle all nerves and put together a 51-run partnership to take their side over the finish line. We anticipated this to be a blockbuster clash but Australia Women Under-19 managed to make this a walk in the park with a professional performance.
Australia Women Under-19 have completed a dominating win and condemned India Women Under-19 to their first loss of the competition. They have managed to get over the finish line with 7 wickets in hand and with 37 balls to spare and have asserted their credentials as the favorites of this competition despite their opening game loss. The India Women Under-19 bowlers had very little to work with and could not bother the Australia Women Under-19 batters as much as they would have liked. Titas Sadhu, Sonam Yadav, and Archana Devi did claim a wicket each but they needed many more to have a chance in this game.
